About

My name is Mary Stella.  I’m a writer, a business professional, a sister, aunt and friend.  I’m in my early 50s and have been overweight since I was a “chubby” kid.   For most of my adult life I’ve been obese to some degree, mixed in with some periods of successful dieting when I was less obese.

On January 25, 2012, I had a surgical procedure called a vertical sleeve gastrectomy.  I’d resisted having weight loss surgery for years but in the summer of 2011 I knew I had to make a choice.  I could continue my life without change and end up disabled or dead by the time I reached age 60, or I could take this serious step and give myself a chance to enjoy a healthier, better quality of life.

I created this blog to talk about my journey, before and after surgery.  I’m a writer so writing about my experience comes natural to me and is a way for me to consider and process the changes in my life.  You’re welcome to read about the journey, comment on it or share yours.

This blog will help me.  If it helps you too, so much the better.
